His Excellency Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo was among dignitaries during the inaugural of ninth edition of Kenya Inter-County sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games in Kisumu.
The governor who led participants in various sports disciplines from his County, joined the Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to open the fete at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu County on Monday.
Speaking during the occasion, Governor Nyaribo noted that the event was crucial in strengthening Inter- Counties network and promotion of National unity through social interaction.
"I'm glad that this noble event will strengthen Inter-Counties network and promote National unity among ourselves through social interaction," said the Governor.
Mr Namwamba represented the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua who was expected to be the Chief Guest during the event.
The CS urged County Governments to take Kicosca games seriously and promised that the National Government will work with them to better its growth and development.
The hosting County Governor Prof Peter Nyong'o emphasized the need for the devolved Governments to implement a budget to cater for the games which he noted where crucial to everyone.
He also emphasized the need for employers to allow employees to participate in games, arguing… all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.
More than 900 participants from various Counties and Parastatals are expected to take part in various sporting disciplines.
The games to be participated in the one week event include scrabble, golf, athletics, football, pool, table tennis, basketball among others.
