H.E Governor Amos Nyaribo is encouraging farmers in Nyamira County to embrace agribusiness farming to sustain food security in the region.
The Governor said in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals - One and Two - whose aim is to end poverty of all forms and hunger, great emphasis needs to be put on agricultural production and agribusiness.
To attain sustainable food security, he noted, his administration through the Department of Water, Environment and climate change has developed two critical documents that will address issues on climate change that has a direct affect on Agricultural sector in the County.
The two documents will involve the Participatory County Climate Risk Assessment Report(PCRA) and Nyamira County Climate Change Action plan.
Other areas that is being addressed, the County Boss said, include subsidized artificial insemination program, traditional vegetables commercialization, dairy promotion and revitalization of the cash crops sector among others.
The County Government is currently mapping and registering farmers and other agricultural value chain actors across the entire county so that they can benefit from an efficient input subsidy program.
The Governor’s sentiment were included in a speech read on his behalf by CECM for Agriculture, Ms Alice Manoti during World Food Day held at Tombe, Manga sub-county.
During the fete, farmers were also encouraged to conserve water and embrace ways to sustainably practice farming to boost nutrition and improve livelihoods.
Over 15 exhibitors showcased different farm technologies and value addition of various products.
Also present were; the CECM for Lands, Stephen Oboso, The CCO for Livestock and Fisheries;Lucas odida, Director Agriculture;David Munyi and other County officials
