Nyamira County Government has restored street lights, which had been vandalized.
Environment, Water, Mining, and Natural Resources County Director Benard Nyachienga says 52 street lights that had been vandalized have been reinstalled.
Street lights have been reinstalled in Marara area and Nyamaiya boys, Nyamira/Kisii stage, Kebirigo boys junction, Viongozi junction, Bosose primary school, Sironga area, Chepng’ombe Health centre, Ekerenyo area, Magwagwa market, Magwagwa police post and Ikamu junction.
The street lights were installed to enable traders to carry out their businesses at night and enhance security.
The county, under the leadership of Governor H.E Amos Nyaribo, plans to roll out street lighting in all trading centres to make the region a 24-hour business economy.
The County has asked residents to be vigilant and report those vandalising the street lights.
Unscrupulous people had vandalized the lighting points either by stealing bulbs, solar panels, or wiring systems.
“ We have also introduced security features that will prevent vandalism of the street lights,” Mr Nyachieng’a said.
Some security features, he said, include the introduction of spikes on poles and greasing posts to make them slippery.
“We have enhanced the equipping of street lights maintenance tools as well,” Mr Nyachieng’a noted.
Reinforcement of batteries using concrete underground has also been enhanced to prevent energy-storing gadgets from being stolen.
